42923, an ex-LMS Crab, is
shown pulling into the down loop at Thurstaston with the final freight
from Hooton to West Kirby on the 5th of May 1962.
For the final time, the Thurstaston signalman will take the single line token from the fireman and return to the signalbox to exchange the tokens between the two trains. This process would have been done for every train passing through the station in the 76 years since the station was opened.
The train from Hooton was considerably longer than the one from West Kirby; I think that there are 8 wagons plus the brake van.
